The Dignity Project
(helping pregnant women in poverty)
Around the world, 830 women die everyday, or 303,000 yearly, from pregnancy or childbirth related causes that are preventable. 99% of all maternal deaths occur in developing countries. Approximately 22,000 of these deaths occur in the Caribbean and Latin America and 400 in Peru.
Infections are one of the preventable direct causes of maternal deaths.
With this project, our objective is to reduce this rate and to first help women in the Peruvian Amazon by distributing dignity birth packs and capacitating the personnel to use them. Each birth kit includes all sterilized instruments necessary to perform a delivery, which is delivered to vulnerable populations, in a cute pouch.
The instruments are accompanied by an illustrated human rights booklet with the intention to educate the community about their basic human rights.
